FURY is an umbrella for all young people aged 11-25 who are involved in the United Reformed Church in some way.
The Synod appoints a representative to FURY Council who is the main link between FURY in the Synod and FURY in the national church. Our current Synod FURY rep is Grant Gulczynski. You can contact him on southern@fury.org.uk
Young people of FURY age from the different parts of Southern Synod are regularly invited to participate in the Synod Children’s & Youth Work Forum. Ideally, a couple of young people would represent each of the different areas of the Synod (Wimbledon, Croydon, SE London, West Kent, East Kent, West Sussex & East Sussex).
There are 7 places at Synod meeting for young people aged 14-25 who are members of the United Reformed Church. They are entitled to speak and vote at these meetings.
There are also 2 places on the Synod Mission & Strategy Group, for young people aged 18-25 years.
The annual Go On Get Involved event in the Synod brings together FURY representatives for support and training, in preparation for FURY Assembly. Southern Synod subsidises up to 14 young people from the Synod to participate in the national FURY Assembly. To find out about FURY Assembly and more go to: www.fury.org.uk
In all of the above meetings, the aim is to enable young people’s views and ideas to be heard and to influence the decisions of the Synod. However, changes are afoot since young people proposed the creation of a Synod Youth Executive, to try to encourage greater involvement of young people within Southern Synod. If you are a young person of FURY age and are interested in getting more involved in the United Reformed Church, please contact Grant Gulczynski, the Synod FURY rep, on southern@fury.org.uk
