Successful Applicants in 2007

Hope Street Centre Project, Social Enterprise Café, Sheerness, Kent

£4,502

As part of a £1.5M rebuilding and refurbishment programme the Church is opening a Social Enterprise Café which will be sued to train people with minor learning and physical disabilities. The grant was given to equip the café with crockery and utensils, furniture and equipment for video and television outreach programmes.

Trinity Church, Deal, Kent

£5,000 

To provide an adaptable mobile stage setup for church and community use within the reconstructed worship area of Trinity Church. The Church is part of a growing community and they want to provide a programme for community drama, music, puppet and storytelling workshops, productions and performances, plus continuing use for worship and witness as a hub in a deprived area of East Kent.

The Spiral Project, Bexley URC, Kent

£5,000

This money will go towards reorganising and developing the back of the church to accommodate the aims of the project which are: To proclaim the good news of the kingdom; To generate a 116 year old church for community and church use; To generate funds in order to provide suitable premises for outreach; To welcome the secular community in Bexley.

Portslade URC, Breakfast Club, West Sussex

£1,070

A continental breakfast is provided on a Sunday morning for children in school years 1 to 6. This is followed by Christian teaching, and afterwards the children are encouraged to join the main church at 11:15 for the conclusion of worship. The money will be spent on a projector screen, DVD/CD player, etc.

Puppet Ministry, St. Martin ’s, Saltdean

£700

The £700 was for the purchase of extra puppets, a stage, and resources. The aim is to develop the Puppet Ministry at St. Martins organising celebration events and to build better contacts with local Primary schools, Nurseries and Playgroups using puppets, illusions and music to share and teach the Christian Message. 

Sussex Clean Comedy Week 2006

£5,000

Good clean quality comedy shows were staged from 9-14 October in different towns, mainly in West Sussex. The shows had a spiritual emphasis with the result that URC members and other Christians were encouraged to invite their friends and share the Gospel with them.

St Michael’s Luncheon Club, New Cross

£2,000

The money was given to purchase a dishwasher. The church provides a weekly luncheon club with social activities for the elderly people living around the church. Please see the attached report for further details.

Ash URC, Full Throttle Project, Kent

£400

The money was given for administrative costs towards an outreach scheme in the village of Ash to enable young teenagers to take responsibility for the use of their motorbikes and the effects their use has on other members of their community.

Sompting URC Toddler Group Project, West Sussex

£373

The Toddler Group used the money to purchase play equipment to replace the broken and worn out equipment they already had. The Group provides a safe happy environment in which parents can meet and children can play, there is also a short time of praise and worship towards the end of the session. The Group is staffed and supported by church members and used as an “outreach” tool into the wider community.

Car Boot Sale Mission Project, Sussex East

£5,000

This initiative was launched with a NGF grant in 2005 to develop a witness at Car Boot Fairs held in Sussex on Sunday mornings. To continue the project they requested £5,000 to provide support for two local evangelists to run the stall and also to provide an Outreach Resource Pack for churches.

Trinity URC, Crawley, West Sussex

£3,000 

The money was given to create a “Resource Room” for church members, church groups, Crawley Bible Society, Salvation Army, worship groups etc. The money went towards carpet, blinds, books, TV etc. All who use the room express pleasure in how comfortable and relaxed it is.

Gillingham URC, Kent

£2,500 

The money given was for the redecoration and refurbishment of the Church parlour due to the growth in children’s work. The money went towards paint, carpet, chairs, tables etc. On the 3rd September 2006, Revd. Nigel Uden re-dedicated the Church Parlour to the glory of God. The room is used every Sunday and regularly during the week.

Canterbury District – Junior Camp Equipment

£800 

This camp has been running for years and previously hired cooking rings, unfortunately just before the camp in 2005 the rings were no longer available. With the money from the New Growth Fund they were able to purchase permanent cooking facilities.

Car Boot Sale Mission Project, Sussex East

£2,500

For people that don’t go to church on a Sunday morning – we will go to them. We provide a small stall, sell appropriate literature, give away tea and coffee and talk to the people at the Car Boot Sale held in the Polegate/Eastbourne area on Sunday mornings.
