• To root all thought and action in a commitment to Kingdom-focussed mission
• To co-ordinate Southern Synod’s thinking on all aspects of ministry, including Church Membership, Church Related Community Work, Eldership, Lay Preaching, Local Church Leadership and Ministry of Word and Sacraments
• To enable regular consultation on deployment of Ministers of Word and Sacraments and Church Related Community Workers and any other paid resources, offering a Synod-wide perspective to inform District decision-making
• To receive regular reports from Candidates and Students
• To receive regular reports on training matters
a) Working Group of Ministries (answerable to Ministries)
b) Candidates and Students
• To administer and oversee the process by which candidates apply for ministry of Word and Sacraments and Church Related Community Workers
• To reach the final discernment about applicants’ calls
• To provide sustained pastoral care for students, and to retain contact with their local churches and districts
• To participate in annual review processes as arranged by colleges/courses
• To make final decisions, after consultation with courses/colleges, about a student’s readiness for ordination/commissioning
• To consider ministers applying to transfer between stipendiary and non-stipendiary ministry
• To interview and make recommendations concerning ministers seeking reinstatement to the roll.
