MANSE POLICY - APP 1

SOUTHERN SYNOD

MANSE POLICY 2005

APPENDIX 1 – THE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE

LOCAL CHURCH AND THE MANSE FUND

When a new or replacement manse is purchased by the Manse Fund, the Fund will meet the costs arising in preparing the property for occupation by the new minister, in accordance with Synod policy up to the “agreed standard” para 4-6. This includes all necessary redecoration and repairs, the provision of security and safety features and the provision, cleaning or replacement of carpets and floor coverings, if necessary.

When a manse has been let during a vacancy (paras 13-15 and Appendix 2) and is again to be occupied by a minister or other church worker, the Manse Fund will meet the costs as for a new or replacement manse set out above.  It should be noted, however, that the local church will be expected to meet the cost of any such repairs and decorations which should have been carried out under para 9 when the manse was occupied by the last minister (para 14).

In all other situations, the financial responsibilities are as set out below (LC = local church or other body responsible, MF = Manse Fund):
