The Synod Development Officer works full time, giving support and consultation throughout the Synod on human resource development. This includes all aspects of training, facilitation and delivery to enable all ministries in the Synod to be supported and developed in an appropriate way. This includes Continuing Ministerial Education, Pre and Post Ordination and oversight of ministry courses. Other areas are to encourage and enable Lay Leadership and the unlocking of God given gifts in so many different ways in conjunction with Districts and Local Churches.

The role undertakes to:

  • Enable the training of local congregations and leadership, including Elders
  • Encourage ministerial participation in Education for Ministry
  • Ministerial Higher Education Programmes
  • Nurturing ordinands on courses in their vocation and training
  • Maintaining a watching brief on the Training for Learning and Service and other courses
  • Networking with other Synods, agencies and denominations
  • Co-ordinating the Synod Training Team

Des comes from a background of Management Training and Business Consultancy with a life time of commitment to the church in many different ways. He is commited to enabling others to achieve their own God given potential and strives to support the Mission and Evangelism of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Des graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BA Hons Ed degree and is married with three grown children and two grandchildren. Interests include walking, travelling (mainly in the United Kingdom), art and design, gardening and local history.
