'Foundation Course' 2 years
There are no enty prerequisites.
The course is for studying the Bible and Christian Faith in relation to your own area of service in the church, through home study (3-4 hours/week), fortnightly local tutorials, quarterly regional residential weekends.

'Gateways into Worship' 1 year
Normally prior completion of Fundation Course required.
Theory and practice of worship, training people for the leading of worship, including preaching, in a number of contexts.

'Gateway into Car' 1 year
Prior completion of Foundation Couse not requred.
To equip Christians to be more effective in pastoral care through a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the Gospel.

'God's Jesters' 1 year
Prior completion of Foundation Course not required. A catalyst for people wanting to use the performing arts in Christian outreach and worship, but who don't know how or where to start, or who seek increased confidence and new ideas.

'Expriencing Faith' 1 year
Prior completion of Foundation Course desirable but not essential.
To equip people to come to a position of dialogue and understanding with their local other Faith groupings.

'Gateways into Prayer' 1 year
Prior completion of Foundation Course not required.
To enable people to energise and develop their own prayer life and that of their Christian community.

TLS LITE
Local Introductory Training Experiences

'LITE' short courses are for general interest and for people hoping for District/Area recognition as Lay Preachers.

The courses are organised locally and set up to meet local demand. There are five courses to choose from, or to build up in a series:

  • 'You, the Bible, God and Worship'
    Introduction; 3 study units and group sessions

  • 'Getting to Grips with the Bible'
    Basic course about history and structure of the Bible; 5 study units and group sessions, one Study Day.

  • 'Talking about God'
    Introduction to theology; 5 study units and group sessions, one Study Day.

  • 'Leading Worship'
    Worship principles, design and practice; 10 study units and group sessions, two Study Days.

  • 'God's Word for Today'
    Supplementary course on preaching; 5 study units and group sessions, one Study Day.

Method:
Work on each unit at home for 2-3 hours;
Share the results in local group with tutor for 2 hours;
Study Days concentrate on practical work and discussion.

Course Groups:
To be arranged locally, in consultation with the District Lay Preaching Commissioner.

Fees:
Are set by Districts and local organisers, but will be low (the cost of materials is £31 per person per study unit).
