MISSION COUNCIL RESOLUTION ON ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION
Mission Council in March passed the following resolution which we encourage you to publicise as widely as possible, particularly with candidates in the run-up to the General Election:
The Mission Council of the United Reformed Church calls upon all political parties in the run-up to a General Election to:
1) clear the confusion of the public over the different categories of immigrant, refugee and asylum seeker;
2) stop stirring up the racial conflict caused by their competitive hardening attitude and by the proposed tougher legislation towards asylum seekers;
3) review urgently and frequently which countries are safe for the return of asylum seekers;
4) minimise the detaining of families in removal centres;
5) work urgently to eliminate trafficking of people to this country’.
